2009 Chevrolet Avalanche

2009 Chevrolet Avalanche builds a similar vehicle to the 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche (the Escalade EXT), but the Avalanche is the original transformer and it keeps getting better. Turning it from a short-bed pickup to a sort of long-bed with a partial roof covering is a simple process of flipping down its Midgate to extend its pickup bed inside the cabin.
Edmunds praises the “sleeker exterior styling” in this generation. “The previous Avalanche's body cladding is gone, replaced with integrated rocker panels and bumpers,” Cars.com says. “Key elements of the previous model remain—namely the triangular pillars descending from the cab's C-pillars to its bed.” Kelley Blue Book notes that the Chevrolet Avalanche 2009's "monochromatic exterior features wraparound fascias that eliminate bumper-to-body gaps," adding that a "sleek windshield angle extends into a smoother roofline, the front air dam is low and wide and prominent fenders with integrated wheel flares complement the bulging power-dome hood." Cars.com contends the Chevrolet Avalanche 2009 "closely resembles the 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe up front, though with an overall length of 221 inches it's nearly as long as Chevrolet's full-size Suburban SUV." ForbesAutos deftly describes the 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche as "a cross between a full-size SUV and a full-size pickup truck,” while Edmunds comments favorably on the 2009 Chevy Avalanche's "versatile Midgate-based body style.”
Reviewers generally like the interior of the 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche, but not all are that descriptive as to why. ForbesAutos simply reports that the 2009 Chevy Avalanche's "nice two-tone interior is crafted from high-quality materials," and Car and Driver pays a halfhearted compliment to the “decent interior.” Cars.com is more specific, noting that the 2009 Chevrole Avalanche takes "interior styling cues [that] echo the Tahoe and Suburban, with a curvaceous dashboard.” They add, “Gone are the boxy dashboard and chintzy controls from the previous version, replaced by a carlike environment that's far beyond GM's previous interiors—and even beyond the current Toyota Sequoia for that matter.”

2009 Buick Enclave

2009 Buick Enclave TheCarConnection.com finds the majority of reviewers enjoy the looks, inside and out, of the 2009 Buick Enclave. Outside, it features curvaceous fenders and glamorous detailing, though the D-pillar would look better blacked out than in body color (it's the vertical piece that separates the rear doors from the cargo area). Inside, it's subdued, luxurious, and high-quality throughout—and a revelation for Buick
MotherProof considers the Enclave "curvy" and "lean." According to the review from Kelley Blue Book, the "waterfall" grille and portholes above the fenders recall the ripe, sensuous lines of the classic Buicks of the late 1940s and early '50s. It’s “a more soothing design,” Car and Driver contends—and BusinessWeek agrees, saying, “the curvy contours, the chrome, and the bold grille-work perfectly reflect the Enclave's overall tone.”
GM designed the Enclave and its sister vehicles (the Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadiaand Chevrolet Traverse from the ground up, though some engine and suspension pieces are borrowed from the company's cars. The shape isn’t cribbed from any vehicle—it’s a new look for GM and for Buick, one filled with rounded forms and soft, subtle shapes, both inside and out. The 2009 Buick Enclave’s "voluptuous curves" and "graceful lines" are praised by the likes of Edmunds, while Road & Travel calls it "slinky." The Enclave is a “crossover with flowing lines, big wheels, a wide stance, and a tapered upper body,” according to Car and Driver. In some ways, it’s similar to its siblings, MSN Autos says, “but the Buick model looks the best of the trio.”
The 2009 BuickEnclave’s interior also suggests a ’40s- to ’50s-era vehicle, according to The Auto Channel: "The dash features a center arch in housing an analog clock giving the Enclave an Art Deco feel." Motor Trend notes that “its nicely designed interior is as tangible an improvement over the other two as its organic, Coke-bottle sheet metal is compared with their creased lines.” The New York Times agrees, reporting, “The cabin’s design showed that G.M. was successful in its effort to upgrade its interiors.” BusinessWeek gushes about the interior as well, calling it “gorgeous, easily as nice, or nicer, as the interiors of the Lexus RX 350 the Acura MDX and the Volvo XC90

2009 BMW 7

2009 BMW 7 The previous generation of BMW 7-Series received much criticism for its more overt (ungainly, some have said) styling, so for the BMW 7-Series 2009 edition, BMW'sdesigners have returned to the automaker's more traditional look.
The automotive press is very pleased with the changes to the 2009 BMW 7-Series' exterior, according to reviews read by TheCarConnection.com. Jalopnik comments that "the design team has gone to great effort to correct the car's awkward-looking posterior," while Automobile Magazine reports that the latest 2009 BMW7-Series "took what was right about its predecessor—its stunning proportions—and rids it of the ugly details."
From the exterior, nearly all BMW 7-Series 2009 models look the same, as ConsumerGuide reports that "the [BMW] 7-Series lineup will consist of two models, the 750i and 750Li"; the only difference between the two is that the Li is 5.5 inches longer. Both cars share an exterior that Car and Driver calls "spruced up, with a strong crease that runs the length of the car," while the "trunklid is far less bulbous."
Reviewers rave about the interior of the new 2009 BMW 7-Series as well, with Motor Trend reporting that the "most impressive" of all the improvements to the BMW 7-Series "are the changes inside," where the cabin is "marked by horizontal color gradations, a mix of fine leather and polished woods, and a new high-tech Black Panel instrument cluster." According to Autoblog reviewers, the Black Panel instrument cluster on the BMW7-Series 2009 leaves "only the gauge rings and needles...visible when the car is shut off." Automobile Magazine states that some of the more notable interior changes include that "the shifter has moved back to the center console, the seat controls have moved back to the outboard positions, and the climate controls have, thankfully, moved out of iDrive."

2009 Audi S5

2009 Audi S5 The 2009 5 is Germany's take on the American muscle car; with its powerful yet chic styling, it represents at both the drag strip and on Rodeo Drive.
"With the brand's customary wide-mouth grille flanked by lower air intakes, the S5 is instantly recognizable as an Audi" states Cars.com. The 2009 S5 defines sporty elegance. The hotted-up V-8 version of the A5 coupe introduced two years ago throbs with muscle car power--and especially from the rear, it bears more than a passing resemblance to the coming Chevrolet Camaro with great proportions, curves, and crests to its sheetmetal. Cars.com details the differences between the S5 and the Audi A5 "Even though the S5's lines are essentially the same as the A5's, a number of subtle cues will tip off informed bystanders to the fact that they're looking at an S model. Details include a revised grille, silver-colored side mirrors, quad tailpipes and unique 19-inch alloy wheels, in addition to S5 badges."
According to Automobile Magazine, "Designer Walter de'Silva declares this to be his most beautiful car yet, and we're not inclined to disagree." Edmunds likes the "elegant design inside and out." The S5 is "one sinister-looking performance coupe," Cars.com says. The 2009 Audi S5's rear spoiler is integrated into the deck lid, and the 19-inch double-spoke alloy wheels mimic the body's flowing lines without being excessive. MyRide.com notes that the "alloys fill the wheel wells," and "a rising lower body crease gives the flanks a bit of added character." To round out the image of this sweet ride, "the low roof line gives the Audia hunkered-down stance." Kelley Blue Book isn't too keen on the panoramic glass roof, warning, "you may be disappointed by the (large) fixed glass piece that only tilts." MyRide.com remarks that "up front is the familial grille, which sits forward of a power-dome hood and between other signature styling cues," such as the "aggressive horizontal headlight housings." Special S badges complete the look. The tail doesn't exactly pop out at you, but the "trim taillights and a clear fascia design" make for a "subdued" style. Cars.com notes the "LED daytime running lights," which are still rare enough to stand out in the automotive landscape.

2009 Audi A4

2009 Audi A4 The 2009 AudiA4 sports a larger body with a sense of style like that of the bigger Audi A6 according to reviews from across the Web and the firsthand experience of TheCarConnection.com’s editors.
For the new model year, the 2009 AudiA4 has grown substantially larger in both sedan and wagon form. It’s “4.6 inches longer and two inches wider than before,” Car and Driver says, and it “grows from one of the smallest cars in its class to one of the largest, versus competitors such as the Mercedes-Benz C-Classand the BMW 3 Series,” according to AutoWeek. That increased size gives it “infinitely more presence,” Car and Driver adds. “Imagery doesn’t do justice to the new A4.”
Cars.com notes the similarities with Audi’slarger four-door and wagon. The new 2009 Aud A4 “isn't a radical departure from the outgoing model, but it now bears a greater family resemblance to the larger A6,” they report. Motor Trend likes the new “sculpted lines” and the “more aggressive front end,” noting that the changes give the A4 “a planted, sportier stance” that “holds the road with a new sense of confidence and enthusiasm.” Car and Driver approves of the new lighting applied to the nose, calling it “LED eyeliner”; Cars.com says these lights are “an uncommon feature, but they are very good at grabbing the attention of oncoming motorists thanks to the bright, white light they emit.” Popular Mechanics calls the new design “crisp and attractive, with a face resembling the A5 coupe.”
AutoWeek also reviewed the new 2009 AudiA4 Avant wagon and said it’s “good-looking to boot,” with “muscular proportions, short overhangs and gracefully arcing roof.” They argue that “the wagon is arguably more dynamic-looking” than the sedan.
The 2009 AudiA4’s cabin is entirely new, and it’s “a huge step forward,” in Car and Driver’s opinion. “Even without the sunroof, the space feels open and airy.” Motor Trend gives their approval to the “high-quality materials and clean, attractive design [that] continue to live up to Audi'sstellar reputation as the industry benchmark.”

Acura's

sports coupe is Acura's entry-level model and offers the rare combination of solid performance, good comfort, and overall value. While few changes are in the offing for 2006, it remains stylish and sophisticated inside and out without being overly flashy. Its lively 155-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is available with either a five-speed-manual (which is recommended for maximum launch power) or five-speed-automatic transmission. The sportier Type-S version, meanwhile, remains the most satisfying version, with a high-output 201-horsepower 2.0-liter engine, close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox, and a stiffer suspension. A long list of standard features includes four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, front-side airbags, a power moonroof, automatic air conditioning, a premium CD stereo, and alloy wheels. A new color, Global Silver Metallic is added to the palette for 2006. A redesigned version is expected for 2007

2009 Mercedes-Benz SLK

2009 Mercedes-Benz SLK The SLK is Mercedes-Benz's small convertible sportscar, or roadster, that offers a power-folding hardtop arrangement, one of the most comfortable interiors among the smaller roadsters, and V-6 and V-8 power.
The 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class comes in three different models, each now with a very different driving personality. The SLK280 has been renamed the SLK300, although its engine remains a 228-horsepower, 3.0-liter V-6. In the middle is the 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLK350, which gets a 3.5-liter V-6 good for 300 horsepower—32 hp more than last year. And at the top of the lineup is the exclusive SLK55 AMG, bringing 355 horsepower along with exclusive AMG performance tuning and components throughout. A six-speed manual transmission is available only in the SLK280 model, while the remainder of the models comes with a seven-speed automatic transmission and manual control. All SLK models have rear-wheel drive.
The 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLK350 remains the centerpiece of the lineup, with its 300-hp engine helping to take better advantage of the SLK's quick handling response and good dynamic balance in tight corners. Most notably, due to a series of engine improvements, its sound is a bit more aggressive. The seven-speed automatic shifts smoothly but isn't always as responsive as you might expect from a high-performance roadster. That's remedied in the high-performance 2009 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG, which adds a special paddle-shifted SpeedShift seven-speed.

2012 Tesla

2012 Tesla Given Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk's claims today, Tesla's Model Sall-electric sedan would seem to one-up the stunning Fisker Karma an E-REV that uses a small gasoline engine to turn a generator. The zero emissions Model S is said to accelerate to 60 mph in roughly the same time (5.6 seconds) as the Fisker And with the top-option battery pack, Tesla Motors promises a 300-mile range. The standard battery pack yields 160 miles of driving, the second-tier pack 230 miles. Musk envisions Model S
ners renting 300-mile battery packs for travels, or upgrading some time after purchasing the vehicle if their driving needs change.

Top speed of the Model Swas given as 130 mph for the upcoming sport variant. Just like the Tesla Roadster, a one-speed drive is used. While that sounds decidedly low-tech, it actually means less weight, complexity, and cost. As electric motors have only rotating - not reciprocating - mass to deal with, their maximum speed is much higher and smoother than any internal combustion engine can muster.

2010 Ford Fusion

2010 Ford Fusion The 2010 Ford Fusion is a mid-size four-door sedan that offers gasoline and hybrid power in either front- or all-wheel-drive configurations.
In normal times, the Fusion, at only three model years old, would have been due for a minor refresh—some added features and a gussied-up nose and tail. Instead, Ford spent $650 million on a major overhaul affecting engines, transmissions, interiors, and styling. The result is a dramatically improved and refined mid-size sedan that comprises a full range of models, including a base gasoline four-cylinder model, a mid-level V-6, an exceptional hybrid and a gutsy Sport model with a big-bore V-6.
The 2010 Fusion's new styling looks sharp, especially the aggressive front end that puts a new face on Ford'sthree-bar grille. The design requires a new hood and front fenders, and the result is as sculptural as it is contemporary. The changes at the rear are subtler and, along with updating the look, improve visibility because the third brake light is now mounted at the top of the trunk lid. The 2010 FordFusion Hybrid model will appeal to those who don't want to flaunt their sensibilities; only the Hybridadges give you obvious visual confirmation that you're looking at the most efficient mid-size sedan on the road.

2009 Rolls-Royce Phantom

2009 Rolls-Royce Phantom chauffeur-driven. It’s an image the company has been trying to play down for decades; to win over new buyers who will become brand enthusiasts, loving their Roller for its dynamic appeal rather than its rear legroom. The Phantom Coupé – to be unveiled at next month’s Geneva Motor Show in production trim – is the model that might finally do just that.
Bosses at the U.K.-based, BMW-owned, firm believe this is the most driver-orientated model in the Phantom range. They’re trumpeting its subtle change in character while still playing up RR’s traditional strengths of luxury, comfort, design and craftsmanship. They’re also confident they’ve created the world’s foremost transcontinental tourer.
Chief designer Ian Cameron explained: “Rolls-Royce has always been about pace, performance and style. For the Coupé we gave the quintessential design a dynamic twist. This adds a sense of drama to the outstanding engineering and drivability that are fundamentals of Rolls-Royce cars.”
The two-door four-seater is based on the 101EX concept, first shown at the Geneva expo in 2006. The Coupé is 9.8 inches shorter than the Phantom sedan, but like the other members of the family, it features rear-hinged doors. Crucially, they aid the overall stiffness of the body as they allow for an uninterrupted A-pillar. The result is the most torsionally rigid Rolls-Royce ever. A brushed steel finish to the A-pillar and bonnet, as seen for the first time on earlier 100EX prototype, is also on the Coupé.
Built around a lightweight aluminum chassis, at the heart of the Coupé is the same 6.75-liter V-12 that’s in the Phantom. It produces 453 hp, with the 0-60 mph sprint completed in 5.6 seconds. That’s the same as the Drophead Coupé – the convertible version of the car – though a 25 percent increase in fuel tank capacity over that model has boosted the driving range.
Mazda Will Find MPG Increases Through Diesels, Reduced Weight
"We believe that improving today's conventional engines at a low cost is the most effective way to get fuel-efficient cars to proliferate," said Mazda research and development head Seita Kanai to reporters in Tokyo. In response to the growing list of automakers offering gas/electric hybrids, Mazda intends to use a new 2.0-liter clean diesel engine, under development, to match hybrid vehicles' mileage. They say their new diesels will feature simpler mechanicals and lower materials/production costs than hybrids. Pro-hybrid automakers like Toyota have said that cleaning the exhaust stream from diesel engines is too costly and complicated.

2009 Kia Optima

2009 Kia Optima The 2009 KiaOptima is the Korean automaker's mid-size sedan. Although the Optima continues, as in previous model years, to favor comfort and frugality over style and trend-setting options, the Optima has been made a little more appealing for 2009 with a styling makeover and new engine options.
Both of the KiaOptima's engines receive power boosts for 2009, with the four-cylinder now producing 175 horsepower and the six-cylinder offering 194 hp. Five-speed transmissions are the norm on the front-wheel-drive KiaOptima lineup, with a manual coming standard on the four-cylinder and an automatic option; the V-6 comes exclusively with a five-speed automatic.
With the automatic transmission, there's not really much of a difference in performance between the two models, except the four-cylinder engine can coarsen under hard acceleration. At 22 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, its fuel economy is also slightly better than with the V-6.
The 2009 KiaOptima boasts a relatively pleasant ride, although running over larger bumps can be jarring. The Optima is clearly more comfortable on city streets than rural roads, where its crisp, responsive steering feel shines through, but it can't maintain its poise when navigating curvy back roads.
Last year's Kiao ptima featured one of the roomiest cabins in its segment, and the addition of 3 more inches to the overall length for 2009 only helps in that regard. The Optima boasts good backseat legroom and headroom, and the big 14.8-cubic-foot trunk will swallow more gear than most of the Optima's competitors.
The base KiaOptima LX features standard cruise control, keyless entry and alarm, a manual tilt and telescopic steering column, radio controls on the steering wheel, and floor mats. The Optima LX, meanwhile, adds dual exhaust outlets and alloy wheels when equipped with the V-6. Moving up to the mid-range Optima EX, expect to find alloy wheels, fog lights, solar glass, an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, automatic temperature control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The KiaOptima EX also comes standard with an Infinity AM/FM/six-disc CD/MP3 premium audio system, and the V-6 gets dual exhaust outlets. The top-of-the-line KiaOptima SX picks up black leather, aluminum trim, and metal pedals.
The 2009 KiaOptima has top five-star results from the federal government in both frontal and side impact tests, along with a "good" rating in frontal impact and an "acceptable" rating in side impact from the insurance-affiliated IIHS. Standard safety equipment includes front and front seat-mounted side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, and active front headrests. Anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control are available together as a packaged option on all but the base model

2009 Saab 9-5 Overview

2009 Saab 9-5 Overview The mid-size 9-5 was introduced more than a decade ago, and it hasn’t seen a full redesign since. It’s finally due for a replacement for 2010 but, in the meantime, carries into 2009 with minimal updates. The 9-5 is still offered in sedan and wagon (SportCombi) variants, including the 2.3T Sport Sedan and SportCombi models, as well as the sportier Aero Sport Sedan and Aero SportCombi models.
A 2.3-liter inline four-cylinder turbo engine with 260 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque propels all 9-5 models. Power is delivered to the front wheels via a five-speed automatic Sentronic transmission or optional five-speed manual transmission. Considering the 9-5’s aged design, the powertrains are still quite competitive, with strong acceleration and good passing response, although the engine feels out of place in a high-end car, as it’s not nearly as smooth in the low revs as most of the six-cylinder engines in rival vehicles. At 18 mpg city, 28 highway with the manual and 17/26 mpg with the automatic transmission, the Saab 9-5 gets reasonably good fuel economy.
Handling, especially under hard acceleration, is the most common complaint about the Saab 9-5. Although it has been reduced, the 2009 version still exhibits the familiar torque steer—a pull to one side or the other when you press the throttle. The Aero version of the Saab9-5 features a retuned suspension with tighter springs and higher damping rates, as well as a larger anti-roll bar, and it controls the wheels a little better. Ride compliance is more sporting (read: tauter), but in general, the Aero is the most pleasant 9-5 to drive; the standard version has an exceptionally smooth ride.
The Saab 9-5 has a quirky but well-designed interior. The instrument panel is an upright wall of drab plastic and looks, indeed, stuck in the ’90s, but the front seats are wonderful, and one of the virtues of its older design is that the comfortable backseats have a wide-open view of the road—something the hunkered-down, thick-necked of today can't match. A large trunk is also a part of the equation.
Civic SiHonda's performance-oriented Si model — offered as both a sedan and a conventional two-door coupe — features a rear deck spoiler, cladding and Si badging that's different from the coupe's rear spoiler and cladding.
2.0-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder
197 hp at 7,800 rpm and 139 pounds-feet of torque at 6,200 rpm
Six-speed manual gearbox
Limited-slip differential
Deeply bolstered seats with red fabric stitching
Alloy wheels with 17-inch tires
Navigation system with voice recognition available
Available USB audio interface for iPods and flash drives

Compact Passenger Cars

Two- and four-door cars that seat four to five passengers and range in price from less than $10,000 to about $22,000, though some models top $40,000. This includes everything from entry-level transportation to luxury cars. Popular models include the Honda Civic, Chrysler PT Cruiser and BMW 3 Series

Hyundai

Hyundai has revealed the first pictures of an innovative plug-in hybrid Hyundai Blue-Will Concept car. Due to be revealed at the 2009 Seoul Motor Show which opens on April 2nd, the "Blue-Will", has exceptionally advanced technology crammed inside its striking bodyshell.
Recycled PET soft drink bottles were used to make the material for the headlamp bezels while use has also been made of bio-plastics: PLA for the interior while PA11 was specified for the engine cover. These materials are made from plants extract rather than fossil fuels and are bio-degradable.
The Hyundai Blue-Will Concept is powered by an all-aluminium Gasoline Direct Injected 1.6-litre engine which is coupled to a Continuously Variable Transmission and a 100kw electric motor which is at the heart of Hyundai's parallel hybrid drive architecture.
Electric power, stored by a Lithium Ion Polymer battery pack, is neatly bundled with the fuel tank under the rear seat to maximise luggage space.
Hyundai will be the first automaker in the world to apply Lithium Ion Polymer in a mass production vehicle when the Elantra LPI Hybrid goes on sale in Korea in July this year.
A further expression of the concept's design flexibility is found on the panoramic roof. The glass area integrates dye-sensitized solar cells which can generate power for the batteries from the sun without impeding visibility.

Ignore, if you can, all the various 'MPS' emblems on this hot hatch. They won't be on the car when it's sold in North America as the 2010 Mazda Mazdaspeed 3.
Like its staid sedan and hatchback siblings, the latest iteration of the Mazdaspeed 3 is far from revolutionary. In fact, most changes are cosmetic, including the new wide-eyed front fascia, revised hatch and taillights, and a new hood scoop.
Evolutionary also applies to what's under the hood. The turbocharged 2.3-liter I-4 seen in the last-generation Mazdaspeed 3 soldiers on in the 2010 model, producing the same 260 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Likewise, it's still mated only to a six-speed manual transmission, channeling power to the front wheels.
Still, there are a few things to love about Mazdaspeed's latest compact. To start, the car benefits from additional chassis tuning, including new reinforcements in the firewall and body tunnel to add stiffness. Mazda claims new half shafts were designed to reduce torque steer, and new 18-inch wheels, patterned after those on the RX-8, are capable of handling wider Dunlop 225/40R18 rubber.
And there's also the matter of the car's interior. While the previous 3's cabin wasn't intolerable, the new car's living quarters are a vast improvement. The wraparound dashboard is both slick and sophisticated, and it's highlighted by red-tinted carbon fiber accents. This theme continues with the seating, which wears black leather skins with bright red stitching.
Although it may not represent a quantum leap in power, the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 mixes new refinements with an already potent performance car. We can't wait to get our hands on one when it arrives in the U.S. later this year

2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT Hatchback
For more than a decade and a half, the Mitsubishi Eclipse has been one of America's more popular sport coupes. Its success can be attributed to several factors that have remained constant throughout its run, including sleek styling, powerful engines, a decent amount of comfort and affordability.
Interestingly, these traits also describe the traditional domestic rear-drive sport coupe, and some have described the Mitsubishi Eclipse as the Japanese version of a pony car. They point out that the Eclipse has typically not been as nimble as other imported coupes, and has instead been best at straight-line performance. The Eclipse has also always been designed solely for the U.S. market and is a rarity in other parts of the world.
The original Eclipse was the result of a joint venture in the mid-'80s between Mitsubishi and Chrysler, known as Diamond Star Motors (DSM). For model-year 1990, at a plant in central Illinois, the partners started production of what was known as the Diamond Star triplets: similar versions of the same Mitsubishi-engineered car, including the Eclipse, the Eagle Talon and the Plymouth Laser. With the subsequent demise of the Eagle and Plymouth brands, only the Eclipse remains in production.
In total, there have been four generations of the Eclipse. Measured in terms of all-around performance and design, the latest one is certainly no slouch. But an earlier Eclipse, assuming it has been cared for properly, could be an affordable and enjoyable purchase for the budding sport coupe enthusiast

In addition, Volvo S80L is also equipped with both an advanced Electronic Climate Control system (ECC), and Air Quality System (AQS), which greatly enhance comfort and provide a green and healthy in-car environment for passengers.
Dynamic power
Volvo S80L 3.0 T6 AWD is equipped with the classic 3.0-liter six-cylinder in-line turbocharged engine, with a maximum power rating of 210 kilowatts (285 hp) and a maximum output of 400 Nm torque at 1,500rpm. It needs only 7.2 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, so it doesn't seem to be overstated if "extremely fast" is used to describe the speed. The T6 engine uses Twin Scroll technology, inhaling exhaust in two stages and dividing it into two scrolls, which then flow into three cylinders. Twin Scroll Technology uses a more compact and simple turbocharger with quick response, giving equivalent performance to dual turbochargers.
The T6 model is equipped with Volvo's all-wheel drive system which uses an electrically controlled hydraulically-activated clutch to distribute power between the front and rear wheels, to provide the best possible road grip in all situations. The system uses the instant traction system, which can distribute power very quickly between the front and rear wheels, when the car is driven in wet and slippery conditions, or on a soft road surface.
Leading safety technology and premium quality
Volvo's safety technology is unique around the world. At Volvo Cars' Safety Centre in Sweden, the world's most advanced automotive crash testing institution can simulate a wide range of collision scenarios, thereby improving vehicle safety performance in all aspects. The Volvo S80L has been tested at Volvo Cars Safety Centre, shipped there from China.

Opel Insignia Sports Tourer

Opel Insignia Sports Tourer
The new Opel Insignia Sports Tourer showcases the dynamic look of the new Opel midsize class in the station wagon segment and reflects this in its name. Two new engines for the entire Opel Insignia class also make their world premiere at the Paris Motor Show (October 4 - 19). The innovative 2.0-liter BiTurbo diesel with clean tech combustion system has 190 hp, and the downsized 1.6-liter gasoline turbo engine reaches 180 hp. The Opel Insignia Sports Tourer offers the same state-of-the-art technology as the Insignia, including the Opel Eye camera system, AFL+ headlamps, Adaptive 4x4 all-wheel-drive and the FlexRide chassis. This is complemented by station-wagon-specific equipment such as a power tailgate with programmable opening height, a leveling system and the FlexOrganizer cargo management system. The completely flat luggage compartment has a capacity of 540 to 1,510 liters. With a cD of just below 0.30, the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer is the most aerodynamic station wagon Opel has ever built.
The Opel Insignia Sports Tourer addresses a younger target group than the sedan. It is the ideal choice for families and sporty, active people who desire a wagon for their leisure activities and sports equipment, but who don't want to give up the elegant style, superb driving characteristics and low fuel consumption of a midsize car.
The new Opel Insignia Sports Tourer will be introduced to European markets in spring 2009. Opel expects the Sports Tourer to take a high share of sales in strong station wagon markets like Italy and Germany. Like the sedan models, the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer was developed in GM Europe's Design and Engineering Center in Rüsselsheim. It will also be built in the Rüsselsheim plant, one of the most modern and efficient plants in the world.
Sporty design, unprecedented aerodynamics for maximum efficiency
While designers carried forward the sporty, elegant design of the Insignia to the Sports Tourer, they spared no effort in giving the largest Insignia its own unique look. Mark Adams, Vice President of GM Europe Design, says, "This vehicle has its own very unique personality, while still remaining consistent to the new design language that we have developed for Opel, where Sculptural artistry meets German precision. It combines the perfect balance of a practical package wrapped in a dynamic, sporty design."
The result is a dynamic, sporty station wagon that elegantly conceals its high utility value. To achieve this, the designers reinterpreted a number of elements. They pulled the "wraparound" tailgate far into the flanks and accentuated it with large, distinctive, fully integrated tail lights. The chrome strip holding the prominent Opel logo gives the car a note of added confidence.
The rear sweeps down into a rounded bumper, emphasizing the aerodynamic framework that underpins the car's design. The roof spoiler has the same effect, elongating the dynamic sloping roofline that is accentuated by roof rails and thus helping to ensure that the Insignia sedan's sporty proportions are retained with the Sports Tourer. Also, the air is guided longer along the roof reducing the drag. Two vertical fins that bridge the roof spoiler and the rear lights have the same effect. The air flow is sharply cut off which also reduces rear end lift.
As in the Insignia sedan, GM Europe engineers fine-tuned the subtlest details to ensure excellent aerodynamic performance. These include rounding the front bumper corners and adding a flexible spoiler lip to its bottom end, giving the A-pillar a rounder shape, changing the exterior mirror to a wing form, and profiling the lower control arm in the rear suspension. Two underbody spoilers direct air over the rear axle to reduce drag and lift even more, while the three front air inlets have been optimized for efficiency. With a cD of just below 0.30, the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer is the most aerodynamic station wagon Opel has ever built. With a drag area of 0.69 m², it is better than many smaller cars.
Interior: Plenty of space and practical features like the FlexOrganizer system
The new station wagon's dynamic look encloses an interior that offers ample space for five occupants and a highly competitive luggage compartment that offers a volume of 540 liters. The Sports Tourer has retained an identical wheelbase of 2.74 meters as the sedan models and added around eight centimeters to its rear cargo length for an overall 4.91 meters. The load area length up to the front seats is 1.91 meters and when fully loaded, the sporty station wagon has a maximum capacity of 1,510 liters.
The Sports Tourer combines sporty looks with the space and functionality of conventional wagons. The automatic leveling system is just as practical as the closing support for the manual tailgate which pulls the tailgate into the lock when closing; both items are fitted as standard. Also available is a tailgate that can be electrically opened and closed and features a programmable opening height that helps prevent damage to the tailgate even in garages with low ceilings. Added to that are clever ideas such as the familiar FlexOrganizer system that separates and secures cargo loads: A flexible system of nets and foldaway dividers can be fixed to two horizontal rails running along each side of the load area. The host of stowage possibilities in the passenger cell, that are also a feature of the sedan, include molded-in pockets in the front doors that can each hold a 1.5-liter bottle.
With the new Sports Tourer comes a new seat material that is an automotive industry first: It uses "TopTec" nano-technology to help textile upholstery resist staining and prevent liquids from penetrating it, therefore is up to 50 percent easier to clean that conventional upholstery. TopTec material, available with the beige interior, is as breathable as conventional material and makes it easier for families with small children to choose interior trim with friendly, light-colored upholstery.
Nine Engines Available
Two new engines make their premiere in the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer, and join the seven engines already available for the sedan models. The 2.0-liter BiTurbo diesel with 190 hp and the 1.6-liter gasoline turbo with 180 hp will then also be available in the sedan versions. Both engines are part of Opel's rightsizing strategy. This strategy aims to achieve higher performance not through higher displacement, but rather to increase the efficiency of smaller engines with the help of state-of-the-art technology to such a point that they at least rival larger engines in terms of performance, torque and drivability while at the same time consuming considerably less fuel. In addition to these nine engines, an ecoFLEX variant with remarkably low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions will also be introduced in the course of next year.
Strong and innovative: The new 2.0 CDTI BiTurbo
The new 2.0-liter CDTI BiTurbo will top the diesel engine family available in the Insignia. With two-stage turbo-charging and clean tech combustion control, it produces 140 kW/190 hp at 4,000 rpm, which corresponds to an excellent power output per liter of 70 kW/95 hp. The maximum torque is 400 Nm at an exceptionally low 1,500 rpm.
The innovative clean tech technology that controls combustion via an electronic closed loop system makes its debut in the common-rail four-cylinder engine. Pressure sensors integrated in the glow plugs are used to measure combustion pressures as high as 180 bar in each individual cylinder up to one million times per minute, within an accuracy of 98 percent. The data is sent to the central engine control system and the fuel injection continuously adjusted. This closed loop system ensures the engine always operates within an optimum range for maximum power output and minimum exhaust emissions, improving efficiency and lowering combustion noise. Long-term stability of the combustion process is another advantage of pressure measurement with the piezo-resistive sensors. Over the service life of the engine, it compensates for wear factors such as inaccuracies in the fuel metering, component tolerances, varying fuel qualities and operating conditions.
The two-phase turbocharging concept ensures a good response at low engine speeds, as well as maximum power output values. Two turbochargers, one small and one large, are connected in series and controlled by a combined throttle system. Up to 1,500 rpm, the exhaust gases only pass over the turbine in the small, low-inertia turbocharger, which forces air into the cylinders at up to 3.3 bars pressure. When engine speed increases, part of the exhaust gas flow is diverted to the large turbine so that both turbochargers become active. Pre-compressed in the large turbocharger, the air is led into the small turbocharger via an intercooler and then forced into the cylinders in a highly compressed state. At engine speeds above 3,000 rpm, the entire exhaust gas flow is directed to the larger turbo, from where the compressed air is forced into the cylinders via the intercooler.
A third generation, common-rail injection system - working at pressures up to 2,000 bars - is another special engine feature. In hydraulic cutting technology, for example, 2,000 bars is sufficient pressure to cut stainless steel blocks up to a thickness of 15 centimeters. In the Opel diesel engine, the high-pressure rail system delivers fuel through high-precision, piezo electrically-controlled injector nozzles which allow up to eight injections per stroke, enabling extremely precise combustion control in terms of noise and exhaust emissions.
An oxidation catalyst, located close to the engine and a standard particulate filter provide after-treatment of the exhaust gas. As with all Insignia engines, the new, highly efficient diesel unit is Euro 5 certified.
Efficient and sporty: The new 1.6 Turbo with 180 hp
The new 1.6-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine in the ECOTEC series also uses turbocharging. It delivers maximum power of 132 kW/180 hp and generates peak torque of 230 Nm from just 2,200 rpm all the way to 5,400 rpm. On top, the standard overboost system delivers a temporary 15 percent torque increase, up to 266 Nm, as required. Electronic control allows a maximum charge pressure of 2.5 bars for up to five seconds, compared to 2.1 bars in normal running. The overboost function is activated when the accelerator pedal is rapidly pressed down all the way.
The cylinder head, oil sump and intake manifold, with a laterally-mounted throttle valve, are all in aluminum. The integration of the turbocharger housing in the cast exhaust manifold - a typical Opel feature - optimizes weight-saving and ensures a rapid response. The turbocharger is water cooled and was developed by Opel in collaboration with specialists from BorgWarner Turbo Systems. It is distinguished by refined flow geometries, improved materials and increased durability.
The compact 1.6 turbo engine is only 15 kg heavier than its naturally-aspirated counterpart, tipping the scales at just 131 kg. It has a bore/stroke ratio of 79/81.5 mm and displacement of 1598 cm3, top values in power-to-weight ratio (1 kg per 1 kW), specific power output (82.5 kW/112.5 hp per liter displacement) and specific consumption: At 2,000 rpm and a charge pressure of two bars, it consumes only 406 grams of fuel per kilowatt hour. This engine also is certified according to the stringent Euro 5 emissions standard.
Typical Opel: Affordable innovations also in Sports Tourer
"Along with leading technologies and high safety standards, the elegant Opel Insignia Sports Tourer clearly expresses Opel's strategy to make innovation and attractive design accessible," says Alain Visser, Chief Marketing Officer for GM Europe. All of the details designed for the Insignia can also be found in the Sports Tourer.
Developed for front and all-wheel-drive, the chassis is designed to offer a high level of safety and comfort. It can even be enhanced with the innovative, integrated FlexRide mechatronic chassis system which improves stability and provides real time, electronically controlled damping. FlexRide also gives the driver the choice between three driving modes. In addition to the standard adaptive mode, the driver can either opt for a comfort-oriented mode Tour or Sport setting. The Sport mode makes the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer driving experience more active, as it changes the set-up of interlinked functions such as the steering, throttle control and even the ambient lighting of the dashboard. Furthermore, Insignia customers can order the new, sophisticated Adaptive 4x4 system that proactively distributes torque to ensure superb stability while providing optimal traction and enhancing handling performance on all road conditions.
The "Opel Eye" camera, which reads and memorizes traffic signs and warns drivers when they unintentionally veer out of their lane, also increases safety in the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer. Other innovative features are the new-generation AFL+ headlamps that adjust to prevailing traffic conditions with nine different lighting functions and the particularly back-friendly, orthopedic Ergonomic Sport Seats that are offered at a very affordable price.

Suzuki Grand Vitara 3-door

Suzuki Grand Vitara 3-door
Suzuki launched its first Vitara 20 years ago, creating the world's first compact SUV and tapping into a new market for vehicles that deliver true off-road performance with responsive, fun-to-drive on-road performance. Since then the stylish and versatile SUV has steadily evolved and kept pace with growing demand for good-looking, versatile 4x4s that are as rewarding on the open road as they are motoring off the beaten track.
In developing the new flagship 2.4-litre Grand Vitara, Suzuki has consolidated the design and engineering qualities that have helped the model enjoy such enduring success, while introducing an all-round upgrade in terms of engine performance, equipment specifications, safety, styling and all-round quality.
The result is a compact SUV that offers more than ever before: more power, more style and more driving pleasure but with no adverse effect on fuel consumption or emissions.
The highly specified Suzuki Grand Vitara 2.4-litre is available in three and five-door body styles and the arrival of the 2.4 Suzuki Grand Vitara 3-door gives a unique offering in the SUV market, with no other manufacturer currently offering this engine/body style combination.
At the heart of the new model is a 122kW/166PS 2.4-litre petrol engine (five-door slightly more powerful at 124kW/169PS). The unit makes full use of advanced technical and design features to deliver improved power and torque, with only modest adjustments in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. In fact, with five-speed manual transmission, tailpipe emissions are unchanged at 208g/km for the five-door model (205g/km for Suzuki Grand Vitara 3-door).
The engine is also only marginally larger in size, yet it incorporates a series of features seen for the first time on a Suzuki-designed powerplant. These include a balancer shaft, three-stage variable air intake and a tumble control valve in the intake ports to achieve the best possible fuel-air mixture.
Recognising the life saving potential of electronic stability systems, Suzuki is equipping the 2.4-litre Suzuki Grand Vitara as standard with ESP®, part of a company policy to introduce the system progressively on all forthcoming new models and model facelifts. ESP® uses selective wheel braking and controls engine output as necessary to stabilise the vehicle if it detects understeer or oversteer situations which could possibly result in total loss of control.
Further safety measures have also been upgraded, most notably with the introduction of ventilated rear disc brakes and extra shock-absorbing elements around the bonnet, wings and front bumper to reduce the risk of injury to pedestrians - a quality that had already earned Suzuki Grand Vitara a very respectable three-star rating in independent Euro NCAP crash testing.
Both the exterior and interior have been given a mild facelift. On the outside there is a revised front end treatment and new door mirrors with integrated turn indicators, while inside the cabin chrome and wood-effect inlays add extra touches of quality, together with improvements to the design and operation of some of the dashboard controls, including a new multi-information display and revised air conditioning control panel.
The 2.4-litre model has a high standard specification including an in-dash 6CD player with MP3 compatibility, rear privacy glass and 17-inch wheels. Five-door models additionally feature leather seats with front seat heating; High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps, cruise control, 18-inch wheels and electrically-operated glass sun-roof as standard.
